Our specialty field of facial plastic surgery has made tremendous strides in the last 30 years, my current practice lifetime. In the "senior" grouping of the facial plastic surgery society of my generation, our members have contributed new surgical procedures and improved many others in the areas of rhinoplasty, blepharoplasty, and aging face surgery.
Despite the fact that our members have pioneered or invented many of the advances in minimally invasive or noninvasive cosmetic procedures, facial plastic surgeons, as a group, have lagged behind other specialties in adopting these procedures into their practices. In my mind, this is a short-sighted policy that will eventually lead to practice "phase out," as facial plastic surgeons ignore the needs and demands of our facial rejuvenation patients.
