INTRODUCTION
Lip augmentation has become an increasingly popular procedure over the past decade, coinciding with the increased emphasis placed on larger, fuller lips in the public media.1-2 New advances in synthetic materials have created a plethora of choices for both the facial plastic surgeon and consumers who choose to undergo lip augmentation.3 There has also been an increasing trend and emphasis on less invasive techniques for facial rejuvenation coinciding with the increase in popularity and publicity of cosmetic surgery. Many manufacturers have attempted to parlay the public’s desire for quick and painless methods for cosmetic enhancement into unregulated sale of over-the-counter noninvasive products with the promise of results similar to time-tested surgical and nonsurgical methods.
